Trying to Write a Better Story than "Eggs"

I kind of love William Kennedy's little snippet we got to read. I thoroughly enjoyed the line, "A retarded orangutan could write a better story than "Eggs"." I literally laughed out loud and then kept laughing for minutes later. To me this seemed to be the most relatable first draft type story because I have definitely written a million "Eggs" stories. I used to want to be an author. I would stay up late in my room and write poems and stories and songs...anything really. I would be so proud of them and want to show everyone. After looking back at most of the things I wrote I want to rip them all to shreds. I really don't know what I was thinking when I wrote about my love for winter (which was basically just a list of reasons why I loved winter). It's funny to me now because I don't even like winter anymore. I used to write love songs too. This was in 5th grade...I knew nothing about love. I wrote about the butterflies in your stomach and a bunch mushy gushy sappy crap. I laugh and gag at what my pen allowed to me to scribble on my Hannah Montana notebook. I don't know that my writing has improved all that much, but it has to be better than it used to be...right? Anyway I am trying to be better now to make up for my pathetic attempts of my younger years. Maybe it's showing. Just maybe.
